This service includes temporary accommodation for 10 people either waiting for permanent housing or waiting for the local council St Albans City & District Council to assess with their housing application.

Hightown has recently renovated the St Claire's building (autumn 2017) to provide 10 modern, self-contained and full furnished apartments. Situated within a few minutes walk from the town centre, the location is ideal for people who need easy access to local services (such as Council Offices, job centre or bus station) or who have no access to a car.

    Hightown's Support

Support staff are on site during the day from Monday - Friday and our Night Support & Concierge Workers take care of the service from 10pm - 4am every day.

A typical stay at St Claire's lasts approximately 12 months (for people are on the waiting list for alternative accommodation) or 56-70 days (for those waiting to be assessed by the Council).

Hightown Support will be working in close partnership with St Albans City & District Council. You cannot apply to us directly for temporary accommodation, you must contact your local council.

  • Working with the local community

Hightown have an on site staff office which is situated on the ground floor of the building facing out onto Church Crescent. Outside the hours when staff are on site, CCTV is in operation which can be viewed remotely from another local Hightown service. CCTV will monitor the building entrance, entrance hallway, front door, rear emergency exit and rear hallway. There is also a direct telephone line to the staff which will be manned 24 hours per day.

Hightown Support also chairs a quarterly neighbourhood meeting with the local Residents' Association, police and Albany Lodge

We work closely with our residents, neighbours and local partners to create safe communities. If you are worried about something that you think our staff should be aware of, please get in touch with us.

Hightown Support operates an eligibility and exclusions list and conducts a risk assessment before anyone is granted a licence to live at St Claire's.
