Domestic abuse does not have to be physical violence, it could be financial abuse, verbal abuse or a variety of other types. It's also important to know that abuse can come from any type of family relationship, not just a romantic partner.
Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour designed to intimidate, punish or frighten is domestic abuse.

'Honour based' such as forced marriage or female genital mutilation (FGM)
We will investigate incidents of domestic abuse promptly. The needs of the victim shall be the primary concern and the health and safety of the victim the first priority.
Hightown Housing Association will:

Support victims at risk of, or experiencing, domestic abuse

Work in partnership with other agencies such as the police and local authority

Encourage early reporting through housing officers

Make necessary referrals to external agencies

Local Authority
Please contact your local authority to make an application to a local refuge or shelter. These can be found through your local council web page. Your Housing Officer may also be able to signpost you to the correct contact information.
