Fire safety for high rise buildings

Information for Hosking Court and Kestral Court. 

Evacuation Policy

If a fire starts in your flat, or if your flat is affected by fire or smoke from another part of the building: leave the building immediately and go to a safe place.

• Close all doors behind you and leave the building.

• When you are safe, call 999.

If a fire starts in another part of the building and you’re not affected: stay put.

• Ensure all doors are shut and call 999.

• Each flat has fire protection in the doors, walls and floors. Staying put reduces the risk of being unnecessarily overwhelmed by smoke in a corridor and hindering the fire brigade entering the building.

• Only leave your flat if told to do so by the fire brigade or if you do not feel safe.

Never return to your flat for any reason, unless told it is safe to do so by the fire brigade.

All fire doors in communal areas must be kept closed at all times. If you see any doors wedged open, immediately remove the obstruction and close the door. If a fire door is damaged then please report this to Maintenance Services as soon as possible, either by email or telephone 01442 292301.

Fire Escape Plans shows the quickest and most convenient routes for you to take when evacuating the building.

• Make sure you, your family and visitors know how to escape your home and the communal areas in the building.

• Depending on the location of the fire, you may have to use a different escape route than what you are used to.
