The St Albans Mother & Baby Service provides accommodation and support to eight women aged 16 - 30 who are pregnant, or have a child up to 2 years of age. The service is provided in partnership with St Albans City & District Council. The Hemel Hempstead Mother & Baby Service provides accommodation for 17 women in a mix of shared houses. Please contact Dacorum Borough Council on 01442 228000 if you would like to be considered for this service. Residents are encouraged to fully participate in the planning and running of scheme activities, and to be involved in the recruitment and selection of staff. Regular resident meetings are also held at the service to encourage resident involvement and feedback.
All residents are encouraged to work closely with their allocated support worker to develop independent living skills in areas such as:
- Daily living skills
- Housing options
- Managing your money
- Health and wellbeing
All accommodation is self-catering, fully furnished and centrally heated. In St Albans, there is a communal living room with comfy sofas and a television, a communal kitchen with a dining table, laundry room, rear garden with patio area and a resource area with internet access.
The St Albans Mother & Baby Service is in a residential area within walking distance of St Albans city centre. It has good links with local health care providers and children centres. A health visitor attends the Mother & Baby Service on a regular basis to offer parenting support and advice.
