Lord Alexander House
Lord Alexander House provides 14 purpose built flats for people with mental health issues. Conveniently located in Hemel Hempstead town centre, the building overlooks the Water Gardens. Each tenant has their own self-contained flat with a kitchen, lounge, bathroom, a single bedroom and 24-hour on-site support.
We provide personalised support to people living in their own homes to help them meet their full potential.
Each tenant has an experienced fully trained link worker. Tenants develop a Person Centred support plan with their link worker to meet their needs for daily living skills, leisure and daytime activities. Tenants are also involved in the recruitment and selection of new staff and reviewing policies and procedures to help them become empowered, active and involved in decision making at Lord Alexander House. Social interaction in the local community is actively encouraged and visitors are welcome.
The team provides 24 hour support, including overnight when there is one member of sleep-in staff on call. There is also emergency support from a senior member of staff who is on call for advice.
All tenants are registered with local GPs and have access to locally based community health services. Specialist health support can also be provided if necessary.
Advocacy workers are encouraged and supported at Lord Alexander House. Advocates are welcome to represent / support tenants at their meetings if requested.
Each flat consists of an open plan lounge and fitted kitchen with a washing machine, a bathroom with an over bath shower and a single bedroom, and are furnished by individual residents. One of the flats is wheelchair accessible which includes height adjustable work surfaces in the kitchen. Staff keep an activities information board up to date and support tenants to research and access appropriate day activities or opportunities they wish to attend. Tenants and staff work together on a newsletter, facilitating positive peer interaction and celebrating shared successes.
