At Peregrine Close (formerly known as Viking House), the new affordable housing development from Hightown Housing Association, building is well underway, with the new homes starting to take shape. The parties responsible for funding and planning the development including Hightown, Dacorum Borough Council, Homes England and lead contractors, Thomas Sinden, took time today to see the progress being made on site.
The scheme, which stands on the site of the disused offices known as Viking House, will see 87 one and two bedroom apartments built across four blocks. 40 of these homes will be available for intermediate rent while the remaining 47 will be let via Dacorum Borough Council’s Choice Based Lettings system.
The development is now fully underway, following the purchase of the land by Hightown in 2014. The homes will bring contemporary architecture to the area, with vehicle access from Redbourn Road, leading into a courtyard and a children’s play area.
A focal point will be the central landscaped area, with a shared community space for the residents to enjoy. There will be additional pedestrian access from Swallowdale Lane and a cycle and foot path linking to the strategic cycle path along the former railway line, known as The Nickey Line.
For Hightown, Peregrine Close forms part of a development pipeline of 375 properties projected to be built across Hemel Hempstead over the next four years.
Funding for this development has come from several different organisations, including Dacorum Borough Council, Homes England and Hightown.
