As we recognise Deaf Awareness Week (4-10 May), we’re reflecting on the important work taking place across Hightown to ensure our services are accessible, inclusive and designed around the needs of our residents. A key driver of this progress is our resident‑led Thriving Together Group.
The Thriving Together Group brings together residents with lived experience of disability. By sharing their insight, knowledge and personal perspectives, group members play a vital role in shaping how our services are delivered. The group focuses on ensuring our housing services are accessible, fair and responsive to the diverse communication needs of our communities.
The group has been instrumental in reviewing alternative communication options for residents who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or require translation support. This included assessing how residents can access essential services such as out‑of‑hours repairs.
Their feedback directly informed the successful introduction of Relay UK and Clear Voice translation services. These services offer more inclusive ways for residents to contact us, ensuring everyone can communicate with Hightown in a way that works for them.
During Deaf Awareness Week and beyond, we remain committed to improving accessibility across all areas of our organisation. The work of the Thriving Together Group is just one example of how resident insight is helping us build a more inclusive future for everyone who calls Hightown home.
