Anyone that signs up to Universal Credit now will not receive any benefit payments until the new year. This is because of a built in wait time of at least 35 days for a first monthly payment.
Residents can take out advances on their first months payment, which will then need to be paid back over the following 12 months. By doing this, up to 40% will be taken from future payments. If this is something you decide to do, please be aware of the future deductions and any impact that may have.
The Trussel Trust manage a number of foodbanks across the U.K. to support people who are struggling to provide for themselves or their families. Due to the wait time of 35 days for new Universal Credit applications, unfortunately there has been a rise in people needing to contact the foodbank for support.
If you are concerned that you will not be able to feed your family this Christmas, please contact the Housing team. Our Housing Officers can make referrals for food vouchers and foodbanks following an assessment, and will help in anyway they can.
