From Monday, 27 October 2025, Hightown must comply with a new law called ‘Awaab’s Law’, named in honour of two-year-old Awaab Ishak who tragically passed away following long exposure to mould in his social home. The law sets out strict timeframes that all social housing landlords must follow. This includes investigating and fixing reports of damp and mould and communicating with residents clearly so you know what’s being done and when.
In preparation for the new law, Hightown has created a new dedicated Healthy Homes team. As part of our plans to improve communication to residents on the issue, we held a live webinar on damp and mould on 22 October. Hosted by Iain and Paul from our Healthy Homes team, the webinar focused on:
- Common causes of damp and mould
- Top tips to reduce condensation
- How to report damp and mould and the importance of reporting it early
- What happens when you report damp and mould and timeframes for responding
- What’s changing with Awaab’s Law
- Live Q&A with our experts
