With the warmer weather on the way, many of us enjoy spending time on balconies. It’s a great way to relax and take in the fresh air – but it’s important to use these spaces safely.
Items not permitted on balconies:
To reduce fire risk and keep everyone safe, please do not place the following items on your balcony:
- Barbecues or anything flammable
- Large furniture, wooden or paper items
- Electrical appliances (like fridges, tumble dryers)
- Cooking oil, gas canisters, patio heaters
- Exercise equipment, bikes, e-bikes, or anything with lithium batteries
- Children’s play equipment, or trampolines
- Sheds, cupboards or other permanent structures
- Rubbish bags or decorating materials
Items that you can have:
Items that are safe to use on your balcony
- Small potted plants or window boxes
- A small table and chairs
- A low clothes airer (below the handrail height)
Important balcony safety reminders:
- Never use barbecues or light fires
- Do not throw anything off the balcony
- Do not hang items over railings or use flammable screens
- Keep children supervised at all
- Store bikes in designated bike storage areas, not on balconies
- Keep balconies tidy and free from clutter
- Avoid blocking communal areas by storing personal items indoors
