Open Door homelessness service, 8 Bricket Road

St Albans, AL1 3JX

The Open Door Homelessness Service is a night shelter and daytime drop-in for vulnerable people in St Albans. The service provides accommodation to up to 12 people each night, and provides them with a hot meal. The night shelter is supported by the work of the Open Door Charity, a local charity, run by volunteers. Their vision is to make sure people do not have to turn to sleeping rough in St Albans.     Open Door in Bricket Road, St Albans, has excellent facilities for homeless people - including 12 single bedrooms with wash facilities. The drop-in service offers support and advice, including housing and health issues.

    The communal areas offer access to computers to help people get back into longer term housing, education and work. 

    There is a daytime drop-in service which offers counselling and access to physical and mental healthcare, so addressing the problems that can lead to homelessness. We also provide educational and training courses at Open Door including healthcare, IT, basic skills, CV writing and pre-tenancy training.

    The Vision for the future of Open Door is in line with Hertfordshire Supporting People’s 5 year strategy and the Government’s rough sleepers strategy ‘No one left out – Communities ending rough sleeping’.
    Open Door - St Albans is a registered charity that supports the night shelter. It relies on charitable donations and volunteer help.

    We're really grateful for any donations to the nightshelter and particularly rely on them during any extremes of weather.

The Open Door Charity

The nightshelter is supported by the Open Door Charity. The Open Door Charity works to ensure that no-one need sleep rough in St Albans and to improve the life chances of homeless people in our community.  Our main activities are to raise funds for the Open Door Homelessness Service in Bricket Road, St Albans, to support and improve the service, and to promote volunteering.
