Open Door provides 12 bedrooms in St Albans, Hertfordshire for homeless people. There is support onsite for help and advice with housing, employment and welfare issues.

    Open Door has excellent facilities for homeless people, including 12 single en-suite bedrooms.

    There is a drop-in service that runs Monday to Friday from 2:30pm – 4pm and offers support to anyone who is homeless including advice on housing and health issues. The communal areas offer access to computers to help people maintain or rebuild relationships, get back into longer term housing, education and employment.

    The night shelter is supported by Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust, Change Grow Live and Mind In Mid Herts who provide vital access to support with mental health and addictions. In conjunction with St Albans City and District Council, Open Door St Albans and Trinity Church, the service provides 10 extra bed spaces during extreme weather.

    Open Door St Albans is a registered charity that supports the night shelter.

  • Donations

    We're really grateful for any donations to the nightshelter and particularly rely on them during any extremes of weather.

    Please contact us if you would like to donate to Open Door.

    We always need:

    • food  (non-perishables)
    • toiletries or hygiene products

    (in summer)

    • suncream
    • bottled water
    • hats

The Open Door Charity

The nightshelter is supported by the Open Door Charity. The Open Door Charity works to ensure that no-one need sleep rough in St Albans and to improve the life chances of homeless people in our community. Our main activities are to raise funds for the Open Door Homelessness Service in Bricket Road, St Albans, to support and improve the service, and to promote volunteering.
