Working together to make a difference

It’s been a busy and exciting time across our communities, with residents, staff and partners all working together to make positive changes.  Here are some of the latest highlights from Hightown.

Thriving Together Group: improving accessibility

Our new Thriving Together group brings together residents with lived experience of disability to help shape more inclusive and accessible housing services. The group provides valuable feedback, shares insights and identifies areas where we can do better.

Already, their recommendations have led to some great progress:

  • Improved signage – new signs have been installed at Hightown House to make reception areas easier to navigate. New disabled access signs are also on the way.
  • Deaf awareness training – staff have taken part in training to help improve communication and understanding when supporting deaf and hard of hearing residents.
  • Accessible online services – we have launched an accessibility video highlighting website tool that make it easier for everyone to find important information.

You can find out more on our website.

These steps are part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring all residents feel seen, heard and supported.

ASB Panel: taking action together

Our newly formed Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) panel has held its first meeting, focusing on improving how we handle and prevent ASB in our neighbourhoods. Members discussed understanding language used to describe ASB, reviewing local hot spots and enhancing scrutiny services.

The panel’s next session will welcome a guest speaker from BEACON Victim Support Service, who will share valuable insights and advice.

Supporting our residents to thrive: Our Tenancy Sustainment team

Our Tenancy Sustainment team continues to make a big difference by working closely with local partners to support vulnerable residents.

Recent highlights include:

  • Helping a family affected by domestic abuse move safely with ongoing support from Refuge and Children’s Services.
  • Working with councils, charities and the DWP to secure financial and emotional help for residents in need.
  • Supporting an autistic resident to gain confidence and skills through volunteering.
  • Preventing homelessness by assisting residents with Universal Credit and arrears support.

These partnerships show how much can be achieved when we work together to keep residents safe, supported and thriving.

Summer events: thank you for joining us!

Our summer community events were a great success! Residents had the chance to meet Hightown staff and partner agencies while enjoying fun activities such as animal encounters, face painting and arts and crafts.

We also, distributed essential items and food supplies to help those affected by the rising cost of living.

In our resident survey, 83% of respondents said that safety and security were the most important aspects of their neighbourhoods, with many also highlighting how friendly and welcoming their communities feel.
