First time buyers, Lauren and Craig Humphrey, looked to shared ownership when trying to get on the housing ladder. For them, it's meant moving into the right property, in the right location and making sure they get to invest in a long term family home within a thriving community.
The family were renting a property near Tring when Lauren and Craig decided they would like to move back to Aylesbury, their home town. They saved a deposit for their new home whilst living with Craig's parents along with their two children, aged nine and four. They then began to research the different options open to them as first time buyers.
After looking into shared ownership and Help to Buy, they decided to go with shared ownership, which gave them a faster track onto the property ladder with a bit of added flexibility.
Lauren saw the homes available at Kingfisher Place in Aylesbury and felt one of the houses would be perfect for their family. The development proved to be very popular and after registering their interest they waited to hear about the next steps.
Rachel Lockyer in Hightown's Sales team guided them through the shared ownership process, which began with affordability tests and then a viewing. Rachel also helped Lauren and Craig get some independent financial advice and obtain a mortgage by referring them to Mortgage Light.
Their sale completed and they moved in to their new home at the start of this year. They got to work making the house their own by hanging some pictures and photos and adding other home furnishings.

Located in the heart of Aylesbury, there is a great feeling of community, with a supermarket very nearby, the town centre 15 minutes away and the train station a 20 minute walk away. Their home overlooks the Grand Union Canal and their children like to watch the narrow boats going by and see lots of swallows and red kites flying over the area.
Although they initially felt like the house may be short term move, they have fallen in love with their new home and plan on buying more shares in the property in the future.
"As a first time buyer there were times when it was a little bit daunting but our minds were put at rest. Rachel was brilliant and guided us through the process. When we picked up the keys, it was like meeting a friend."
Rachel Lockyer, Senior Sales and Lettings Advisor at Hightown adds:
"I like to make our purchasers feel confident when buying through Hightown. We aim to deliver a professional and first class service with that personal touch. I'm really pleased that Lauren, Craig and the family are so happy in their new home."
